1. At a glance

Compare2Word performs document comparison and reading in your browser. Files are read only after you select them. The file bytes are not sent to a Compare2Word document-processing API. The site does, however, use third-party analytics and advertising services, so ordinary website usage data may be processed by those providers.

2. Files and document content

2.1 Browser-based processing

Comparisons and readers run with browser JavaScript and Web Workers. Word text is extracted with Mammoth; Excel, CSV, PDF, PowerPoint, and plain-text formats are read by browser-based parsers. Extracted text and comparison results are held in browser memory while you use the tool. Compare2Word does not provide account-based document storage.

The comparison and reader workspace is masked from Microsoft Clarity content recording. We do not intentionally send file names, file contents, extracted text, or comparison results as Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, or Google AdSense events.

2.2 What local processing does not mean

Local document processing does not mean that no data ever leaves your device. The page loads site assets and third-party services over the internet. Those services may receive technical and usage information as described below. Avoid placing sensitive content in a page URL, feedback message, or any field outside the masked document workspace.

3. Website and contact data

We or our service providers may process:

  • Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, approximate location derived from IP, referring page, requested URL, timestamps, and diagnostic or security logs.
  • Usage data: pages viewed, session and interaction information, performance data, and advertising measurements.
  • Messages you send: your email address and the contents of a support or privacy inquiry.

We use this information to operate and secure the site, understand how features perform, fix problems, respond to messages, and fund the service with advertising.

4. Third-party services

The site uses:

  • Google Analytics for traffic and product-usage measurement.
  • Microsoft Clarity for aggregate interaction insights and session diagnostics. Document workspaces are masked from content capture.
  • Google AdSense to deliver and measure advertising.

These providers may use cookies or similar identifiers and process data under their own privacy terms. Their behavior can depend on your region, browser settings, and provider configuration.

5. Browser storage and your choices

Where a feature requires it, Compare2Word may use browser storage for interface preferences. Analytics and advertising providers may use cookies or similar storage. You can clear site data, block third-party cookies or scripts, use private browsing, or use browser privacy controls. Some site features, analytics, or ads may behave differently after blocking them; browser-based file comparison does not require an account.

To remove an open document from the page, use the reset or clear control, refresh the page, or close the tab. If you contact us, you may ask us to delete your message unless we need to retain it for security, dispute handling, or another legitimate operational reason.

6. Retention and security

Document content used by the tools is not stored in a Compare2Word account or document database. Technical logs, analytics data, advertising data, and email correspondence may be retained by us or the relevant provider for operational, security, measurement, or support purposes. Retention periods vary by provider and configuration.

We use HTTPS for network connections to the site and take reasonable steps to limit unnecessary data collection. No website or browser environment can guarantee absolute security.

7. Children

Compare2Word is a general productivity tool and is not designed for children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review the request.
